In today's history clip, we hear about the context of war poetry and the rise of the poppy as the symbol of remembrance. I need say nothing more...

  7. Remembrance of war all too often descends to glorification of war, it seems to me. Once, many, many years ago I was taken to a Legion Hall, and was struck by the fact that the veterans talks of war as though it had been a sport, with emotions verging on nostalgia. I remember clearly one fellow, talking about an air raid over Germany describing it as “being lively over the sight, but we got got rid of a lot of Huns that night.” I do not wear a poppy!
