First Friday Filmclub

I have been following young Alex's adventures for about a year now as he branched out from his previous YT career. He and his brother had been running a fishing channel for some years (yes, as kids), and now they are diverging. Carl continues with the fishing, and Alex is turning to bee-keeping (he's had a heap of honey from his first summer), foraging and taking up van life. There is an infectious wholesomeness to this young fellow, and I love his sense of adventure. On his Euro trip, he has been meeting up with folk everywhere who have shown him marvellous hospitality and taken him mushrooming. This one, though, was extra special because his host, Moritz, has such expertise and personality.

On a personal note, I totally love the idea of mushrooms, but these are sadly not good for my digestive system so could never benefit from such a fantastic foraging adventure - unless, of course, one considers the photographic possibilities, at which Moritz also excels! Grab a cuppa and spend half an hour in the woods.

  1. Nobby and I will be curling up on the sofa with this one later today after dark. Nobby is hoping that truffles are featured. Sometimes I wonder if he thinks we have some interesting fungi growing between the sofa cushions, based on the way he attacks these crevasses with bouts of furious digging from time to time!
    Cheers, Gail.

    1. Well Nobby was a tad disappointed at the lack of truffles, but I found Alex and Moritz interesting and engaging company. I would love to know which of those fungi are found in Scotland. Perhaps not the ones symbiotic with aspens, which are pretty rare here. The notion of tasting mushrooms to check whether or not they are edible alarmed even this enthusiastic amateur mushroom forager! Incidentally, when walking with Nobby in the woods near Potarch yesterday I came across several newly minted chantarelles - amazing at this time of year, and an indicator of how mild this autumn has been so far. (Although the back lawn was crunchy when I let Nobby outside half an hour ago!)
      Cheers, Gail.

  3. Mushrooms are not in my diet now, joining many of the things I love. like Easy says, I would be afraid to eat what I found in the wild .

  5. I love mushrooms and many grow in our yard but I'm don't know if they are poisonous or not and we don't want to find out the hard way.
