Menokreatikkul; The LynGmal...

The LynGmal project is progressing. It is not yet 100%. The armholes require some proper finishing, and a front gusset is needed to fasten the two sides together, but other than that, it's done. Enough to photo and show off. If you thought it was wild earlier, it got wilder! This was always the intention, remember. Something to throw on as an extra layer as I sit here through the winter. It's heavy - basically a wearable blanket. Are you ready? By all means, don sunglasses if you require them...

Now, those of you who read Nobby's repawt about his howliday here at the Hutch will have noted his owning up to the attempted destruction of a certain woollen item of mine. Namely, the beanie. (Thanks, Gail, for recording the sorrowful thing.) However, it did not worry me at all. As several commenters there noted, I now have the opportunity to enhance the item and bring it up to the YAMster's level of fun and feature.

I had been saying since receiving it a few months back that I needed to work on the trim anyway, as it is actually too big for me.

Why bother? It was my mother's. Newer readers here may not know, and others may need reminding, that she was a wonder with wool. Literally would shear a sheep and take the fleece all the way from raw to the finished article and win prizes for her spinning and the garments she made with the yarn. This bunnet was not one of those winners. The wool is Merino from West Australia. It's rough. It is far from pretty. But golly, it's warm! So yes, I can certainly mend it and add some contrast and liven it up a bit. Nobby just ensured that I have to do it sooner than later!

The full moon this week... Somehow, the Hisstix wasn't wanting to play - but this image is atmospheric all the same. The planet on show is Mars (I had initially thought Jupiter when Gail asked me, but I wasn't looking properly - Jupiter was over to the west a bit and out of frame). Have a great weekend, everyone.

  1. You seem to have enough odds and ends on hand to embellish all the world.

Inherited from mother - I don't think she let any length of yarn out of her grasp! Yxx

  2. Nobby and I have already had the opportunity of inspecting the spectacular new garment. (There is the distinct possibility that, left unattended, Nobby would have attempted to 'enhance' the LynGmal along the same lines as he achieved with the hat...)
    Cheers! Gail.

  4. That is a fantastic way to use up odds and ends as well as get the grey cells working. When you talk of a gusset for the front are you planning on ‘closing it in’ so it’ll be like a dress? Why not just get some toggle buttons and close the front in a similar way to that of a duffle coat

That was actually my original thought... but it really is very heavy, so I think will be the better for 'sealing the deal'! It is, after all, a garment intended like a onesie for lounging around the Hutch... Yxx

  6. YAM WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT AND CREATIVE WEARABLE BLANKET. wow YOU KNOW I LOVE LOTS OF COLOR. So easy to use leave it on the couch...sit on it and as you need it just gather it up without moving
Kudos to Nobby for his mouthy work that will give you another project for the winter.

  7. Wow - Yam-Aunty - that came out much longer than we had been expecting, sort of like a blanket with armholes (will it get sleeves too?) F's MIL gave her a fleece blanket version of that a few years ago, but the design was intended for wearing backwards (opening at the back). F doesn't spend long enough sitting down for that to work and looked silly dragging it around like a hospital gown gone wrong. We went looking for the cloche hat crochet pattern we mentioned and recalled it was on 'AllFreeCrochet' - but find that the site has gone mad with adverts (presumably to fund itself) and has become nearly impossible to use these days. (the pattern was all double crochet and produced a hat that had the 'body' of a felted one.) furrings and purrings Mr T and F

I have been pondering adding at least a shawl sleeve to the LynGmal... but as Sandra points out, they can rather get in the way - and I might end up feeling like Michelin man... more than I do already! So I may just do a trim and leave it for now; they can always be added next year if needed! Yxx

  8. I love your coat of many colors and I think it is absolutely perfect for what you made it for the idea of a wearable blanket in the winter time where you live is absolutely genius. And I like that you have the sleeve short enough to not get in things when you're working and you can sit and be warm and comfortable. Good job can't wait to see what you do to the beanie
