What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms

Completing the month of birthdays, let me introduce you to Ernő Dohnányi (sometimes styled Ernst), born in Hungary on the 27th of July. I am going to be seeking some more items by this composer and pianist - I picked the very first thing I listened to/watched, because it drew me right in. One can hear the influence of the teaching lineage, which comes from Brahms and Liszt, but I also see in his playing something of Rachmaninov, which I adore. This recording was made just three years before ED's death, but the power and memory were clearly unfaded.

I hope you have enjoyed your July composers - I enjoyed discovering new pieces so much, I'm going to do it again next month!

  2. The piece is beautiful, YAM, especially enhanced by this old film of the composer himself showing us how it was meant to be played. Sometimes contemporary “interpreters” meddle too much for my liking.
