Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms

Ending the year with - at last! - a female composer. Jennifer Higdon is a New Yorker, born 31st December 1962. Writing contemporary music in the classical style, I listened to quite a few items before settling on this selection. I liked this piece as played by the Portland Youth Philharmonic because it is not perfect. It gets just a little muddied in the middle, but the conductor carries them through, and as a whole, it's a lovely harmonic and scenic item. Just a hint of Copeland in it, perhaps?

  6. I hear a lot of her music on the radio here. And she often is there to explain the pieces she's composed.
    Happy New Year!!

  8. A quite lovely piece, YAM. I can’t say I detected the Copland (not Copeland) influence, but I will listen again. Will you be celebrating Hogmanay tonight or will you be tucked up in bed when the year turns?
