Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms
Verdi wrote so many wonderful operas. Rigoletto is a popular one, and this wee ditty from it is one of the most famous of his 'tunes'. I am including it because it brings back memories from Sydney... although the three tenors only performed together in Melbourne, Pavarotti visited Sydney four times. I was working for Playbill in 1991 and got to help out with the merchandising at the venue (you wouldn't believe the number of large white kerchiefs we sold!)... but then, the big perk: getting to sit and watch him perform. You don't forget things like that! This is fitting because he, too, was born in October...

Thank you for the wonderful opera. I'm not able to spend time listening to such pieces now because my brother is critically ill in hospital.
ReplyDeleteBravo! And lucky you for seeing Pavarotti perform.
ReplyDeleteaaah classics... perfect
ReplyDeleteGlad to listen, Amazing
ReplyDeleteOutstanding performance!
ReplyDeleteTo have seen Luciano is to have touched the stars. In his prime he was the greatest tenor ever. His ability to attain those consecutive high Cs in the Ah Mes Amis aria in Donizetti’s “La Fille du Régiment” still moves me to my very core.
