What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Oh, you say, water again... yes, but with a Heron to watch. This is the mighty Clyde River gushing gloriously at New Lanark. The Heron fascinated me. I am used to seeing them standing by riverbanks where the water stills somewhat, or is at least clear, the better to see the fish beneath the surface. This one appeared to be wanting something just to land at its feet! In the first clip, you see it shuffle and shift. In the second clip, keep your focus on the bird but keep it a little unfocused. Don't blink, or you'll miss it. Like the bird did!

  1. Hello,
It seems like the river is moving too fast for the heron to catch a meal.
Great videos and I love the heron! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

  2. I would think the rushing water would be more challenging for the heron than "fishing" where it's more calm.

  3. I have seen herons fishing in rapids and they seemed to do well. They strike with lightening speed as you know and seemed adept at catching fish that rose above the foam and were momentarily clear of the water. Perhaps certain individuals specialize in these locations and benefit from reduced competition.

  7. That really is something to see. Usually the Herons are in calm water here or even the swamps.

  8. Wow, that water sure was in a hurry. Carried that fish away at lightning speed. Smart heron to just stand and watch.

  9. Going upstream! Was it a spawning season for something to make it want to exert that much effort?

  11. Those are great videos. We think the heron did see the flying fish but it was too far away for him to catch it.

  12. We have a few herons in my part of southern NJ. We love to spot them in the parks and flying overhead.
