Menolyrical; A Boomerang

Lacking anything else to offer today (and not wanting to complain about the ongoing etherwobblies), I bring you a ditty last used six years ago... blink of an eye...

Menoot; A Boomerang Post

There had been plans for visitors, but as we all know, the best laid of voles and women, or something like that! Mac1 (whose birthday was yesterday) called last Friday to say it would have to be postponed as she had landed hard on the pavement earlier in that first week, resulting in damage to her left arm and shoulder. Then Aitch, who'd been aiming to join us, took the nasty winter cold that is doing the rounds, as well as beginning to be leery of the deteriorating weather (it has been wild since the new year), so after a natter on Sunday, we decided best to err on the side of caution.

So let me today share with you what was posted five years ago on this date...

Menogoround; A Boomeranger

As nothing much going on just now, it's time to air out an old post... this one from the same week, eleven years back. A wee bit o' nonsense...

It is one of the small joys of life that, in this quiet wee place beside the Clyde, on Sunday mornings and with a fair wind, I can hear the church bells ringing.  There are two within earshot. If the wind is a Westerly, then it is Holy Trinity Episcopal, up the hill from me at Kilbride Road. If the wind is an Easterly, 'tis the tones of the High Kirk (presbyterian CofS), which of course sits on Kirk Brae.  You'd think with that address it would, then, be No. 1.  ...but no.  No.3 Kirk Brae it is. No. 1 is the old 'hostelry', pub, bar...

It's a week till Christmas. Astounding.  This time last year I was gadding about on the Isle of Bute, falling in love with the place. Dunoon is only an hour's drive to Rothesay, including the ferry hop at Colintraive, so I can still visit it when I wish.

Being on the Clyde means that there is plenty of interest on the water. Shipping for the most part. For a couple of days last week, that pretty much stopped due to the HUGE storm with 15+metre waves and 80mph (and then some) winds.  Then came the morning when it all died down. It was glistening with ice. The Grena Knutsen drew safely in, through the frozen air...

...is there a point to this?  Not really. Am just letting the mind loose for a bit. Sometimes that works.

Not always, but sometimes...

Menolyrical; Let Me Set You A...

Scene

There was a place once
I saw
It sat upon the sea
Where sky was blue
The water too
And the building twixt was three.

It was white I think
Or grey
But took the bluish hue
The tide was out
some crowd about
A distant and mingling queue.

Out upon the strands
Bare feet
Bent backs and metal pails
Time opportune
Harvest of noon
The whelks, the cockles, the snails.

Rocks and black-brown sand
It was
That sea-bed now exposed
Man misses naught
A fish is caught
As the sleeping dogs reposed.

Ephemeral scene
It is
Reliant on nature's whim
When water turns
The liquid churns
And the building seems to swim.

Yes, it's a boomerang/repost... very little happening just now so this makes life easy. Anyway, this is also the time I need to remind you that next week is, once again, FFF time!!! Golly gee, it sure does flee...

Menoptering; A Boomerang Post

Long-termers here may recall this offering from the start of THAT year which seemed to turn the switch up to High Doh for world nonsense. I've had a quiet week back at the Hutch, with Mac1's company for a couple of days and just lots of R&R, so not much else to report. That's why I went searching and realised this might be a good time to give it another airing...

Menolyrical; Duck! (Boomerangs...)

A boomerang post, in that I have posted both these poems previously, but on separate posts. Finding myself without much else to offer today, I bring both together, for they are connected, albeit through forty years of life. Although I don't have an exact date for the first, it was certainly 1980ish, as it is from my 'little black book' of compositions that were entered between 1979 and 1981. The second arose during the trauma that was 2020. I have had cause to revisit them this week as I again wrangle with a few knots...

And Still The Knots

So much unwound
by dint of deep search
of bare-heartedness

Of facing-up and
gritting teeth
and getting real

Knots released
not without pain
surrendering

Are they ever gone?

Menolyrical; Final Friday Feature Boomerang

Last week in the reminder of this being Final Friday time, I used a boomerang post of a pretty critter with purple paws. Here is a reprint of the post that arose from that...  it was from a regular prompt by our erstwhile blogpals, Murphy ad Stanley. When they stopped blogging, I chose to continue the Final Friday Tradition!

Menolyrical; The Dip... an FFHT event

Over at Murphy and Stanley's place it is last Friday of the month story day... click to read more!!!

Normally I use a photo to prompt my stories and this is no exception; we are also given a sentence by M&S which we have to highlight in the story.

This month it is "...and that's why my toes turned purple."

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Monday past, you may recall,
I met a feline fellow
whose paws were bright on every leg
- and I don't mean yellow!

Slunk past my legs  in silence,
(as is the wont of his kind);
sniffed a flower or two in passing,
then showed me his behind.

Such a '... hither' look he had,
I surely had to follow
and watched, as he groomed and strode
then began to wallow.

Mesmerised, I had to ask -
I mean, really, why, when, what??!
"How come, Sir, your paws are tinted
like a forget-me-not?"

Cat growled loud, Cat mewed and blinked
"I could tell you, but at cost...
perhaps some catnip?..fine-flake fish?
or tray of liver frost?"

"None of these I have to hand:
but fifteen mins of glory
I can promise if you will tell
the whole of your story."

A moment's hesitation,
then Cat let loose the torrent
about his brush with neighbours wild
behaviour, abhorrent.

He spoke words non-BBC,
the sort that can't be printed;
he wouldn't tone it down at all,
however much I hinted.

Such vitriol was spewed forth
I could scarce bear to listen;
but then I saw it in his eye,
a twinkle, a glisten!

He stopped, and again the wink:
"lady, you are kind, I see
so from this hatred I'll now refrain
and tell what tainted me.

Renovations under way,
they left their paint to curdle
 - low - in a tray - I could not resist...
...and that's why my toes turned purple."

Menoinggg...Another Boomerang With Paws On

Yesterday we went back to 2015 and the date of 22nd September. Which is actually today...but here now I present you a reprint of the post from the 21st September of that year. I swapped them because this post resulted in my scribbling some nonsense verse in response to a prompt... which lends itself very well to being next week's boomerang (and here's the plug!)

So read the following and then hold your breath until next Friday to find out the tale that was told! (One or two of you may remember this...)

"...What are you looking at???"
This cat appeared in the father's garden on the day I was down photographing a bunch of bonny blooms.
There was some 'cattitude' going down...

I was mesmerised... I mean... wouldn't you be?

I couldn't help it; I just HAD to ask... I mean, who could resist?!

"You seriously expect me to answer that??!"
eerrrrrr, well, you can't wiggle your whiskers at me and loll on the wall like that and expect me not to ask.

Menoingggg... It's A Boomerang Post

On this day in 2015... No, let me start again. On this day, plus one in 2015, I quite virtually time-travelled. Or had an adventure in time. That's what museums are for, right? I posted on the 22nd the following two piccies with this little screed about it.

The clock mentioned here is about the size of your average household telly these days (in terms of the face and dial dimensions). I arrived in the nick of time - the lass needed help winding up one of those gravity wires mentioned above... yes! I actually got to work the winch!!!

You can read the full post with more piccies from the National Museum of Scotland if you click here!

Why didn't I use the item from the 21st post of that year? Come back tomorrow and find out...

Menory Lane; Another Boomerang

After looking up yesterday's post, I went to the following year for this day in 2014... turned out I was in the middle of the WBL-LHI labelled series... "wide brown land-Lord Howe Island". I had scanned some of the pages from my journal of the visit there with my mother in 1992. I really enjoyed looking back over that again... I wonder if you will? I share with you here one of the images from the 16th, which was actually on post four of the series.

There are a handful of readers here who watched those posts then... but there are lots of new readers, too. So I offer you the opportunity to see some grainy old scans of even grainier photographs in a handwritten journal of a little piece of paradise...

You can CLICK HERE to be transported back to Post One of the series, then work through each 'next post', or you can opt to go to THIS LABEL for all the posts and scroll to the bottom then work up in order, (because Blogger insists on LIFO presentation!)

Menorise; The Process Of Inculcation

Old-time readers here will recognise the Menorise label; those posts about lessons to be learned, inspired by greater minds and personalities. I was a bit stuck for posts this week so decided to trawl back to year one of the blog and this date of that year (2013)... and it turned out to be one of my early Menorise offerings.

On the Mumbai-Delhi Express...

We require the wisdom to see the present moment and the courage to live in it.  Too often we are lamenting or lauding the past. Again, too often we get drawn to the 'what if', or 'if only' of the future.

Surely an element of planning is necessary.  This cannot be denied.  When planning is in place however, don't forget to enjoy the ride between 'thens'!

It was good for me to be reminded, so I share the reminder with you... and add a sprinkling of Love with the capital 'ell',

Me-Now-Views; Less Speak More Peek

Am back to trawling the archives again for the next wee while. Giving another airing to a variety of images taken anything up to ten years back...
