What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menorise [men-oh-rIse]; the condition of inculcation

"As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness."  (H.D. Thoreau)

I have always found my most creative self in the night time hours.  These are the hours of solitude.  When asked once if I was ever lonely, I could honestly say 'no'.  Myself and I are more than sufficient company for me.  'Keep it Simple' has long been a personal motto and it is what informs just about everything I do.

For some, though, living lightly seems like hard work.  Letting go (of stuff, of people, of situations, you name it) is painful.  There is fear, grief, anger, desire, envy.... so many things behind it.

But the freedom of untying the bonds and of discovering the ones which must necessarily remain are as slender as gossamer, yet with the strength of steel, is as amazing as it must be to soar free in the skies.  Once the clear air of true independence is tasted there can be no turning back.

The ground will always be there, but no longer are you sucked in by gravity.

Seek true solitude.  That place where there is nothing but you and nature.  It is only there you will find yourself.

That of course assumes it's a search you wish to make.

  1. So true. Been pondering this very same this week. The answers I seek are within me, if only I choose to be quite and listen I actually love my own company and have for the last couple of years. And night time productiveness has increased at this end in the last few years.

  2. Don't tell anyone, but I was always happiest when I lived alone, with a cat or two, or a dog.

Mahal and Kay - take care my dears; loving or preferring your own company is not the same thing as maintaining solitude. Pets are people too and thus you are not alone.

Solitude is an internal process and can take place in the middle of the city. The 'nature' I speak of here is the BIG ME which nurtures the little me... Lots to ponder, I know - but I am planting seeds!! Hugs to both and Love with the capital 'ell'. YAM xx

  4. They say you can feel alone in a crowd I often do and sometimes very connected in a crowd.
Often I like my own company and sometime I seek out someone just to talk

  7. i haven't lived alone since I married in my early twenties and love my DH deeply, but can still be very content with my own company when the opportunity arises. You won't be surprised to learn that I love silent retreats. :-)
