WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menozplorer - is it the never-ending story?

Heheheh, some of my regulars are wondering when Bonny Scotland is going to make an appearance...  Well of course it has a couple of times in the past both here and on MY TAKE; but very soon it will be just about the only subject!!  These are supposed to be memoir-style posts, so OZ and India are both going to re-emerge at times.

Anyway folks, this week I am only just landed, as it were, so still building my files both of photos (which is comparatively easy) and thoughts for the writing of - which I remind you is the key purpose of this page.  It just turned into a picture book during these few weeks of transition. Just so you know, I will be heading off for a week to the Isle of Bute from Saturday.  I will be scheduling lots of posts so you will still get a daily fix, but I will not (I believe) be able to make any comments or view any of my pals blogs, so will have a great deal to catch up on when I get back!!!

For now, though, back to OZ.

Hornsby has, in the centre of the town mall, a rather imposing fountain-+-sculpture. Dominating, even. Beautiful is not an adjective that comes to the fore when trying to describe it!  It was highly controversial as the cost was well over two million and it is such a mish-mash of themes it is hard to tell what was really intended...

...so I give you two details only.  I don't want to be held responsible for any trauma caused by picturing the whole.

If I tell you that there are also chimes on here which get played on a weekly basis and have absolutely no tuning, well, the rest is in your imagination.

I have absolutely no idea what this tree is called - it is not common, certainly not round the Hornsby shire.  Lovely flowers I think you will agree.

Now - I recall promising that I would walk down the other end of the street to see where the creek runs to from the park...  The history there is very interesting so I do hope you are able to read the following - (try clicking on the photo and see if it gets larger).

This is taken from the road bridge looking back towards the little park, which is the busy area top left of photo...the stream runs underground from there to here.

There had been a storm the day before, so plenty of water rushing down!

On the other side of the road bridge, looking North, the gully deepens and continues its rumble down into the Kuring-gai national park and eventually, of course, to the sea...

  2. You know I had to look up the sculpture. Amazing. It's a water clock, and it is what it is.

  3. The red tree we always called The Flame Tree not the real name, but my daughter named it that as when she was a small child she wouldn't walk on the ground if there was one around and the flowers had fallen in the ground.

  4. It may be a good idea to sit tight indoors in Edinburgh this morning and flick back through the India and Oz photo albums!
    Cheers,
    Gail.
PS Gail once, many years ago, shared a office in London with a geologist called Heather Auld. On the door of the office was a postcard of Scotland's capital with the words 'Welcome to Auld Reekie'. Which may give you a clue as to Gail's surname - although not the spelling….

Puddles - something of a yodel, then, your voice? Yes, gorgeous, cold...and GREY...

Joanne - trouble is it never ticked...

Merle - I know the Illawarra Flame tree, much larger with massive leaves and flowers. This one is the same colour but I have a notion it is a Chinese origin plant; more large shrub than tree to be honest. Very pretty though!

Bertie/Gail - just heard of damage in Glasgow from the winds now; eeeek - hope it's all over for my trip across the water on Saturday... hhmmmm now I have to put my detective's hat on...

  6. Sorry I've been so hit-and-miss with comments, yam, but I've been doing a lot of blog-skimming recently. I hope the trip to the Isle of Bute goes well. My DH spent many happy childhood holidays at Rothesay. :-)
