Me-now-views; the Less Speak More Peek day

Sharing a little more about Dunoon with you today, but with the single focus around the High Kirk. This name does not simply apply to the fact the structure sits at almost the highest point in the town, but to the fact that the existing building stands on the ruins of what was once a cathedral church of the Roman and Episcopalian Bishops of Argyll, which was active until 1688.  It became derelict until the early 19th century.  There are grave markers dating back to the 13th century in the yard. 

The Church of Scotland (The Kirk) does not actually sanction cathedrals and neither does the term High Kirk in any way relate to the Romanisation of service, as it does in the Anglican Church of England.
