WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

MenoSunday; Life Lived Easy

Back in October, I shared this with you. That was a very fluid, artistic rendition of the Paso Doble. You'll have gathered from the text around it, that it is one of my most favourite dances. I tend, therefore to be rather critical... am often at odds with others as I generally agree with the 'bad judge' who is actually the 'honest judge'! In Australia the dancing show is called 'Dancing With The Stars' and the format is somewhat different (as is the Masterchef show and at risk of digression, I much prefer the Aussie version...
[DANCE YAM] yeah yeah okay...)

Why the ramble?  Well, the UK having introduced 'People's Strictly' for the annual mega-fundraiser Comic Relief, my pick of the dances won - and it was a Paso!

Let me tell you - all of the 'ordinary heroes' were tremendous, three of the six gaining (and rightly so) the full 40 marks!

Now, for your viewing pleasure, let me first put a clip from the celebrity show, in which a truly classical rendition of the PD is given. (Not fault-free, but very watchable.) It is followed by the People's Strictly 2015 winner, which combines the classic form with a bit of artistic licence so incredibly well. Just in case these BBC clips hide themselves from you, at least the latter can be viewed differently at this site. You can read a little about the dancer there too.

Move over celebs... let the people reign!!!

  6. All very beautiful but oh so energetic. I once watched Dancing with the Stars here in Oz but, as with many of those shows, you tire of them so not watched for several years. Some of the non-dancers did remarkably well but me, I prefer graceful ballroom dancing the way we once danced oh so many years ago. Thanks for sharing those beautiful dances. xx

Heheheheh - yes I agree - the dancer in me hangs on every step; but of course that is all pretty much a mental pursuit now! I agree the series themselves have become somewhat jaded, but a lot depends on who the 'celebs' are - it gets stretched a bit at times! That is why this People's show held so much interest I think - it wasn't all drawn out, they had only one dance to learn, but my goodness they all excelled!!! Yxx

  7. I so prefer the Australian version of Masterchef as well. Much much better and much more fun as well! Apart from when they Marco Pierre White in. Euch!

Anyway, my favourite dance would be the rumba or the charleston. And if I were dancing myself, it would probably be the Viennese Waltz. It's so princessy!

Love to watch the Viennese - but vertigo precludes too much spinning for the YAMster! Both the Viennese and the Charlston were danced by folk in this peoples show and the Charlston was another of the 40 pointers.... at the end of the video here, there is likely to by a variety of 'tiles' among which you may be able to see each of the other dances - they're worth the effort.

Yes, OZ M/chef I think had to alter the format for licencing reasons but my goodness they got it right - much more focus on the actual cooking, a longer and more consistent run watching your faves all the way from beginning to end... (so glad you mentioned the MPW - can't stand him either!) Yxx
