This weekend we have the second Sunday of Advent. The candle of the crown of light heralding Christ's birth this week represents PEACE.

A very loaded word, is peace. Whilst Hope could be applied to the macrocosm, it is most aptly pertinent to the microcosm. Peace, however, can be applied universally. We can of course pray for 'world peace'. This, though is tinged with no small amount of hope. For the simple fact is that there will always be disruptive elements, externally. True peace, with regards to the macrocosm, can only reign when all the individuals in a given space are at peace within themselves. Peace must begin and be constant within the microcosm.

By addressing peace within, at the level of spirit, all around will also respond. Spirit is the unifying factor. Not doctrine, not culture, not borders, not colour, not gender, not language. All these illustrate difference. The diversity has its purpose and, if peace reigns, is a wondrous thing. The things which separate, however, are imbued with ego. Ego flares. It disturbs peace. If we wish to pray for peace, we must first pray that the peace begins with ourselves. We have no right to expect the world to be at peace if we cannot be at peace within our own being. True peace; the state of absolute calm and serenity, without any sense of ownership, doership, or censorship. There is no lingering of resentments, sorrows, ecstasies, hankerings, envies in the centre of peace. Even if we live in places untouched by social disturbance or war, we can be restless and without peace, for we have not resolved all these things within. We have permitted the world to drive and ravage us rather than anchoring ourselves in a Higher Essence and raising the bar of excellence whilst dropping the walls of ego-defence.

Peace is stillness.
Peace is actionless action.
Peace is prayer.
Peace is egoless.
Peace within will radiate with-out.
Like a beacon, you can ...
