Some pretty shots from the QVB visit and also from Scotland Island
The architecture of the QVB is really engrossing - a little bit grotesque and yet fantastically beautiful too. Sums up Victoriana I suppose!
This stair leading up to that small door has always caught the imagination. Not used now, it was opened for a special tour back in 2012. You can read about it and see a video of it in use HERE.
Originally a market place, office building and storehouse which also held a concert hall, the building was unused and fell into disrepair for much of the post-war period, even under a demolition order in 1959.
Somehow it survived that and was taken over and refurbished, re-opening to the public in 1986. More HERE.
The QVB is famous for its Christmas Tree (sits in centre of building and extends through all floors) and decorations. This year it was all done by Schwarzkopf Crystal. Decadence personified!

Those twisty stairs make me dizzy just looking at them. What kind of bird is that with the red head? Quite striking.
