MenoSunday; Life Lived Lovingly

A BLESSED AND PEACEFUL EASTER TO ALL.

As this day of remembrance of the Risen Christ dawns, there are hearts and minds all over the globe struggling with the idea of blessedness and peace. On the cross, as He passed from His physical body, Yeshu let out a prayer..."Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!"

Even in that moment of immense bodily pain, the compassion and capital 'ell' Love manifested from the great master. It remained consistent with the philosophy He had taught up to that point. During the sermon on the mount, it was told that the given wisdom was to 'love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy'; then Yeshu continued -

Matthew 5:44

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you;

Why? Why would the Higher ask this of us?

To lift us out of animal thinking (go to page 111 of that link). It is instinct which raises defences within us, the fight or flight, survival of the fittest aspect which is hard-wired into our bodies. In this sentence, Yeshu appeals to the Divine within each human being; that spark of the intellectual processes which can help us to reason and make decisions against the grain of mere instinct. Yeshu goes on to explain the purpose of taking the Higher approach to infringements against us -

Matthew 5:45

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Contained in these words is the concept of Universal Love and the surrender of the ego. There is no difference whatsoever between all creatures other than the artificial boundaries created by themselves.

All rational beings must seek to rise into the Higher Thinking - not just say the words, or look for external answers. Love starts in the very core of one's own being; what makes the difference between Yeshu, Buddha, Sri Rama and all the great saints and sages of our history is that they lived their belief - they walked the path as shining examples. Latterly we have Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi... Whilst all had to deal with situations of rebellion and terror and, indeed, at some points were perpetrators of these things, all proved valuable to the human race through their activities of peace and reconciliation. We can look to them and take in their teachings intellectually, but until we apply the examples within our daily living we remain subject to the sway of our instincts, succumbing to fear or aggression; being no better than those we would accuse.

To prove to us that we are much, much more than simply the flesh and hormones of our body envelopments, Yeshu sacrificed His own.  He made Himself known in spirit thereafter, to show that life does not end with death.

Even if 'religion' is not your thing, the idea of being the very best human being one can be surely is. Understanding that all matter is, ultimately, the same and it is but the intellect which defines the Higher from the lower is the appeal... by all means feel the hurt and the anger at another's failings; but then seek to not fall there also.

Rise into a Life Lived Lovingly and discover that there truly can be peace. This is the message of the Eternal.

  1. This was a wonderful post! Just the terms animal thinking and higher thinking demand further exploration into our spirituality and the source of our being. Happy Easter!

  5. We can all take inspiration from Gandhi, Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi. Important to remember that not all leaders appeal to the worst in us.
    Happy Easter!
