Menotripsical; BAR and Beyond - Apres BAR

June 11th cont'd...

Things drew to a close for the official gathering at around 5pm - the heat had driven a few back to their a/c rooms, but Diana and I had a couple of things to do on the way back. There was an impromptu visit to the Little Wheelie House of the doods, as the remaining pumpkin pies had to be deposited and dishes retrieved.

It is worth mentioning here that the YAMster was thoroughly relishing the warmth and even the humidity. It is something I have been long used to and miss greatly in Scotland.

Other's were not so fond, though. The doods and Oreo were happy to flop down in the LWH whilst their pawrents lamented the poor output of the a/c unit... (that changed, as you can read here.)

We peeps chatted for a bit and compared notes and then the call for ice cream rang out.
Now is also the time to mention that YAM is not a huge fan of ice cream. However, the previous evening, Diana had introduced me to my very first ever root beer. OMD, a new addiction! That'll do. Off we set to the little town of Nashville IN, which is best described as 'quaint'. As we left the park, we went via the covered bridge, which dates from 1838. It creaked a bit...

"Is that my peanut butter I Screamed fur dad??? What about the butterscotch toffee???"

"nom...nom...nom...nom...nom..........."   [meanwhile, I'sa loving the shadows in this take...]

Now, the picture at left gives a clue as to what Diana and I got up to after the early evening refreshment; well kinda.

Actually, as we left Nashville, we drew into the drug store to see if I could get a new spectacle necklace, as my existing one had been broken during a particularly enthusiastic doggy-luv-in. I left without one... (to finish that story; there had only been a teenager at the till and help or information was not forthcoming, so I simply left. Diana, it turned out, was not ready to let it lie and later in the evening informed me she had phoned the store and spoken with the manager. The following morning we dropped by again and the manager himself handed me - free of charge - a brand new and very decorative "speclace"! Beaded and very pretty, I consider that my souvenir of the BAR &*> )

As we drove back towards the hotel, we made a stop so that I could photograph the tractor cemetery I had spotted in the town of Gnawbone. There must have been upwards of 200 'carcasses' there. Then it was round by the town of Edinburgh. One of the exciting discoveries for me when planning the trip was to note that the Red Roof hotel was just down the road from the Indiana version of my home city. Diana very kindly ensured we drove by there to prove it existed!

Back at the hotel, I photographed the lovely gifties received from Frankie and Ernie - the doxie model is a pen!  I put the 'can' into immediate use, placing snackies in it for the rest of my trip and the bracelet was exactly the colours I was wearing!

A whole group of us gathered in the setting sun outside our rooms and had a long natter. F&E's mum Lana and her daughter Lori are HUGE Star Trek fans so they were keen to show me some of their collected paraphernalia from that - and then I was blown away when Lana presented me with a little silver Enterprise-D on a chain!!! Oh my word, I went weak at the knees... I leaked at the eyes... I grinned so hard it hurt!!!

Some of the folks and pups were heading off early the next morning, so this little gathering was very valuable for memory. One day left...

Oh there was HEAPS of good and very very interesting finds awaiting the founding in that place - just wished there had been time to explore it! Yxx

  4. Well done Diana with the spectacle necklace! I realised after living in the States that one reason why customer service is generally so much better there than in the UK is that Americans are much more inclined to complain if standards fall below what they expect.
Love the photo of you in Edinburgh .
Cheers, Gail (who hates heat and humidity and so is well suited to our cold northern climate).

That's generally true of Aussies too - though perhaps it falls somewhere between the US and UK; we tend to do what I did, which is to 'vote with our feet' and take business elsewhere. However, I am most grateful to Di for taking the trouble!

Am off over to the Real McCoy Edinburry on the morrow to spend a week with the father and take in some art culture with the sissy... and hopefully book tickets for the first show of Star Trek Beyond next Friday! Yxx

  5. OH my word I wish we had made a trek to Nashville, IN. What a quaint little city. We love your commentary and the pictures, as usual, are exquisite. You have the best eye for taking photos.

Yay for Diana setting the drug store on the straight and narrow path to doing what is RIGHT? Have you found any root beer in Scotland?

Love the pose by Edinburgh sign. For sure it was 50 or 60 degrees hotter in that Edinburgh. LOL
    Hugs HiC and B-cat
