What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

First Friday Filmclub

Here is an offering which had me smiling a bit.

Mutton, for those who do not know, is adult sheep. There is Lamb, there is Hogget, and then there is Mutton. Those who grew up on the Sub-continent, though, refer to goats meat as mutton - which is incorrect and I have no idea how this came about, but quite possibly it is because of the British Raj and the tendency to blur the borders of things. Goat rather than sheep would have been available to the Brits, but they would have preferred it being called mutton. (Goats meat is otherwise called 'chevron' which is French for 'kid.')

I never have, nor will ever, nor have known anyone who has eaten a deep-fried Mars bar. Pretty sure it was an April Fools thing for tourists. That said, there are some idiots, even in the Scottish race.

Haggis, neeps and tatties absolutely must be tried. Even we vegos can do this because the meat can be substituted with black beans and the rest remains the same and it is insanely scrumptious!!!

  1. Hilarious! What a brave couple. The deep fried Mars bar was clearly a hit with the male half of the partnership. Although I think that he was practicing British understatement when he described the pie as a "little bit salty"...
    Cheers, Gail.

  2. Oh my word...what a fun couple!! We have all flavors of deep fried candy bars at our State Fair in the fall. Never had one. The only candy I like is plain chocolate w/o any nuts, caramel etc. I would try the pie in a heart beat. Looks yummy. I'm a fan of anything with crust. Now I've heard about haggis and had made up my mind never ever would I try it. The turnips and 'taters for sure. After watching this video I'd give haggis a taste.
    This was fun

  3. I couldn't even imagine tasting a deep fried Mars bar. It just sounds yuck! As for the haggis though: that was good! Not sure I would want it on a weekly basis, but I wouldn't mind eating every once in a while.

  11. I shall never remember the correct terminology! I even had someone correcting me about rabbits vs. hares. Hence, I shall call them all bunny!
