What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menootanaboot; again - fourth viewing.

On Friday, I mentioned that on that one day over at Tarbert, I managed to fit in a little tour of the castle and surrounding grounds. There is very little of the actual building still standing, but lots of grass-covered ruins.

It's quite a hike to get up there...though Mac1 and the father did bring me part way in the car! The view over the town was 'braw'.
Having climbed a set of stairs that would challenge Goliath I was standing on the ruins. All that between the lens and the building is broken down walls, now covered in grass and requiring the sheep to keep it in order. Yes, there are sheep there. Look again.

After wandering the ruins, I saw another set of steps at the other end, not quite so giant between the runners. 'To the community gardens' said the sign. Taking the gamble that I wouldn't have to reclimb them, down I went...

...yup, more to come later in the week!..

  1. what a view from that 3rd photo. That looks like chicken coop wire on the stairs at the end. Is that for better traction?

  3. Well, since there is more to come, at least we know you managed to get back up:)

There is a lot of history in all those stones.

  4. Those stairs look more fun to go down then up. Looking forward to the garden.

  5. Crikey that view over the town sure was braw, aye?? So was the weather by the look of that blue sky. Unlike everyone else Mum would have had no trouble going up those steps. She'd run (well her idea of running) up them but coming down would be another story. Her old knees can't manage going DOWN steps.

  6. Ha ha! I just saw the OP Pack's comment. I am glad that we know that you made it up!

That is beautiful. US history, particularly the history of the western US, is so incredibly short compared to yours. I love those beautiful rocks and all the stories that they hold.

  8. what a great place... I always like it to touch such old walls and to collect a stone from the ground... it'a amazing to imagine that they were touched once by people so many moons ago...

  9. Castle ruins can be very photogenic, especially when situated overlooking a beautiful sea loch.
