WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menoffagainorrhoea; Ready, Steady...

New week, new sojourn! WARNING; this is going to a be a lengthy process - there was so much territory covered and some fascinating discoveries...My three weeks absence from the Hutch began when I had to go first to Edinburgh at the time of the June full moon. Little Ren needed to go to the car doctor for her annual. Then she was going to stay with 'grandpa' for the duration of my absence.

Thursday 14th found me at Edinburgh airport to take a flight down to London Gatwick. From there, a short train trip up towards the River Thames and the suburb of Putney, where Mac2 now lives. I found my way from the rail station to her flat and located the key per instruction, then entered and made myself at home. It was a late homing for my sister, and the next morning was a bit disjointed as she had things to attend... but in the afternoon, we got quality time together. It took the form of her walking me down through the main street towards the river, via the tube station and some very pretty mews until we came to Wandsworth Park.

The park is not particularly large, but it is well laid out along the waterfront, from the railway bridge towards the boatyards where there are some house barges and a fair bit of development.

At that end of the park is to be found a wonderful kids playground and, for the adults, a most impressive putting course. Not your average 'crazy golf', this one. Beautifully landscaped and trickily planned 'fairways' and 'hazards', it was meticulously maintained and was a delight to tackle.

I used to play golf. After about four holes, the old muscles remembered some of that and I even managed to par a couple of holes! In particular, Mac2, who plays it regularly, had three goes at the water crossing... I got across in one. Phew.

As you can see, the sun was shining. Quite relentlessly, actually, and I was grateful for my big white hat. (It was a gift from Mac2 originally.) After our completion of the round  - Mac2 43; YAMster 54 (par is 27, so no course records!) - we enjoyed a toasted sandwich and cuppa at the cafe and checked out the kids' wellington garden. Then a walk back up the hill to the flat. Mac2 had to go out for the evening and I relaxed. It had been rather more physical activity than this body had experienced for some time and needed to shore myself up for the Saturday... for which, do please return tomorrow as the usual views post will be full of history!

  6. Mom really misses having a mini-golf course in our area. There used to be one, but it is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer to draw much of a crowd. So it was closed and eventually replaced with an apartment complex!!!

It sounds like your time with Mac2 was leisurely and enjoyable. We love your photos, especially the flower garden.

  7. You know, I'm so happy for you. I always wanted a sister. This looks delightful! I went golfing with my first husband, we made it to the 4th hole. He was merciless and deadly serious. I'm looking forward to further adventures. I've been stuck here for nearly two weeks coughing. I'm going back to work/volunteering tomorrow. sigh. JB's been a brick! Dreaming up dinners. To buy and bring home!
