WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menorspensively; when tea is high.

During my last week in the Great Down Under Parts, I stayed again with Emm and family in Sydney. It was a busy week. I still had to fit in a dinner with one friend and three lunches with others as well as get some last minute shopping done and some quality time with Emm and Enn.

The very last full day in that land, though, brought something a little different. I met up with a blogpal, Merle, and a friend of hers whom I had not previously met, but knew via the comments section of Merle's blog. Barbara and I immediately warmed to each other and nattered away like we'd known each other forever. I am sure Merle had figured out this would happen. I recall she said to me on my last visit with her that I reminded her of somebody...

We gathered in the city centre, at the Queen Victoria Building. The statue at the entrance was our marker - and blow me down if there wasn't a Scotsman and his pipes busking!

We took a little while deciding what we wanted to eat. QVB  is not for the shy of wallet. Long story short, Merle guided us toward the far end of the building and up to The Tea Room. It is in the highest part of the building. Full silver service 'high teas'. Trez posheroonies!!! You can tell by the chandeliers and gold foil everywhere, right?

The servers were lovely and prepared to work with us on producing some vegetarian options for me. We each chose a different tea from the wide selection - this was connoisseur territory. For me it was the Tibetan Oolong, Merle had the Russian White and Barbara had the Indian Chai. The three-tier food servings were for the two ladies, I had two finger sandwiches and a little pie to myself. They were petite but very delicious. The tea was excellent, and the server kept bringing hot water to replenish our pots, so it was 'drink until you can't anymore!' I didn't attempt any of the little sweetmeats, as I was not entirely sure they met vegetarian requirements.

That's Merle on the left of the photo and Barbara beside me. We nattered away, and the girls didn't at all mind that we sat for two hours. Those two dear ladies then paid the bill and treated me to this wonderful experience, for which I am most grateful.

We strolled through the QVB again afterwards, taking more time to window shop and share stories and really enjoying each other's company. Sadly, though, as it was my last day, I did have to take my leave when we got to the station end... I had an evening with Emm to share and final packing to sort. Hugs and farewells were made. We'll see each other again one day.

  1. Merle is the lady with the beautiful twin grands right!? How very very exciting and Oh my
that tea tray has my mouth watering. Years ago there was a Tea Room here. Bryan and I went you are correct the $$$ is not for the shy of heart. LOL We said....we wanted to share a dessert tier. The gal brought us what would have been on 2 trays all on one. I said we wanted to share one. She looked at me like I had grown horns...so we let it be. It was over 45.00. At least she didn't grimace when I asked for a 'to go bag'. That place didn't last long.
What a lovely visit you had.
    Hugs HiC
