You all know that life is a bit, well, not my own these days. Increasingly it is becoming surrogated to the father. Legal and financial and health matters have been getting discussed in depth this past couple of weeks.
Not that Mac1 and I have not been seeking to get father onside about arrangements for some six months now. Sure, it is hard to surrender when you have had complete, and sometimes secretive, control of your affairs. The other side of that is that the mother used to be the family financier. Dad just finds it all a bit of a chore. He'd rather play ostrich, by his own admission (at least, "should just put my head in the sand" comments suggest he thinks he's related to one...)
I'll admit it's not my fave activity either - but I am good at it, having been in both banking, and self-employed for quite some of my years.
Anyhoo. With a wee bit of cranky and the old argy-bargy, at this point, we have appointed a builder/refitter to upgrade the bathroom to a full wet-room (watch this space!) at long last. Work to commence at the end of the month. The solicitor has been called to finalise power of attorney matters. Thirdly, if all went well on the day of writing this post (Wednesday), then an accountant/financial advisor will have been appointed also.
Once things were falling into place, father brightened a bit. He even agreed to a haircut and beard trim (LONG overdue) and to dress for business...
Couldn't get him out of those slipper-boots though! A somewhat challenging run, this duty-rota, but satisfying and worthwhile, in the end.

YAM the wet room will make things so much more manageable...as I know trying to physically maneuver Dad is almost impossible.

ReplyDeleteyou are a wonderful person...and we love the smile of your daddy...
ReplyDeleteWell done - he'll come to trust you completely - I'm sure he does now and then appreciate he doesn't need to worry about things, and all around him will be easier. Good for you - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteLove that smile on your dad's face and he looks very comfy in his slipper-boots.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Yam. I know how difficult it is to care for a parent.
ReplyDeleteJB, on the other hand, is driving me nuts! I'm trying to take deep breaths. xxx

Glad you are making small strides in assuring all affairs are in order.
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult indeed to have to handle these affairs, both physically and emotionally. Sending good thoughts your way as you all navigate these changes. Sweet photo of your dad!
