Yes, dear friends, it is that one day of the year when the focus is - or ought to be - entirely on the women of the world. There can be no denying that this one half of the human species has come a long way in the last 100 years... but there are still very many dark places for women. In all societies and at all levels within those societies.
In the Western world, whilst women still battle for equal rights and pay in employment, there are also many who live in daily fear of their partners. In the UK, the damage done by mental abuse has been recognised by law now, so domestic abuse of the emotional kind can now be monitored as well as any of the physical kind.
Then, in many places of the world, there are women having to deal with things most of us in our Western cocoon cannot even imagine. I would like to bring to your attention today, three organisations I consider worth your consideration for extending support to your unseen sisters.

If this appeals more to your sensibilities, do please consider supporting them.

It is international, but I am sure you can do your own search for similar in your home countries.
Then, of course, there are sure to be local women's refuges and charities that you could seek out and provide some level of support. Let it not be for today only, however. Small and regular shows of support are generally much more effective. Thank you for turning your minds to these causes today. Do let me know if you have some favourite women's support groups!
Our grandmothers would be so proud of how far we have come!!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I recall about my maternal gma, Annie Ma, was her patriotism...she always MADE sure she voted at city, county,
state and national elections. She was proud of her rights

Women truly have come so far, and we all need to remember to find ways to help those in need, no matter what shape that need may take.
ReplyDeleteWomen have come a long way, though there is still some distance to go.
ReplyDeleteThe day is a celebration of the triumph of their individuality over gender stereotyping.
Happy Women's Day!
Having been raised in the USA where women's rights have been changing and changing for the better for most of my life, I am continually shocked to hear of the plight of women in other countries, as in not allowed to drive or own property, there are many countries still living in the dark ages when it comes to women. these all sound like great ways to support women around the world
ReplyDeleteThere are so many good causes. If we support women, they support families.
ReplyDeleteWe send money monthly to our local women's shelter. There is such a need. Our provincial government has cut funding to them. They turn away hundreds of women and children every month.
Hi Yam - we are lucky to live today ... though some areas of the world - it's definitely not a woman's world. Thank you for this thorough post ... reminding us ... we always need to live lovingly ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Yamini in your belief that we should be championing women's rights every day along with celebrating every gain. Thank you for this post and the reminder that our support is always needed.
ReplyDeleteWe women have come far and we will continue to fight.
ReplyDeleteSo much accomplished, so much to go. None of the women were hardly contenders in the presidential primaries. some day. namaste, janice xx
