Father has been almost impossible to get out of his 'throne' chair, never mind downstairs and out the main door. This year, I think there was one occasion, way back when my brother was here in February.
So when last Wednesday dawned bright and warm, I kept dropping hints about us going down into the garden (we are in a villa flat here in Edinburgh). Just after lunch, I said I was going down anyway, it would be nice if he decided to join. Then, before I had time to tidy up, he'd turned his wheels towards the stair!
He manages the stair surprisingly well. It's the flat walking he finds almost impossible now. So I got the outside wheelchair ready and, hey presto!
Once out, he wanted to see how his pear and apple trees were going. Then the neighbour on one side said hello over the wall and was clearly delighted to see father out and about. He was cleaning his downpipes - and dad said he had plumbing rods fit for that job - which were gladly made use of; so father was of assistance, making him feel good.
Then Neighbour M came out of her kitchen door and spoke to him over the gate (as you see in the photo). I took a garden chair onto the grass and invited her to come to sit with us (appropriate spread!). We were out there for about 90 minutes. It was close to 20'C and I had to get my sunhat!!! Glorious. It was just one day and only a fraction of it, but what a boost to the spirits it was.
In the evening, the "Pink Moon" loomed above us. For some reason, looking green...
Cheese, anyone??? Did you know it is also called the Paschal Moon? It is the fourth moon of the year and after that full moon, the first Sunday following is Easter.
Now it is Easter Monday - and I hope that you are all faring well and keeping cheerful. I have been having a mini-respite in that Mac1 had clearance to make contact, so has been able to come and spend three nights to take over the cares of the father. Too short a time for me to return to the Hutch, but catch-up sleep and some healthy blogging time are much appreciated!!!

ReplyDeleteHi Yam,
Just wonderful to see your Dad out in the garden. Huge congratulations on getting him there. I hope you feel a little glow of satisfaction and even pride every time you look at that photo.
Bertie and I send big hugs to you and all the family.
Cheers, Gail.
oh how good to see your dad and we bet you two enjoyed the good time together... and even the weather was with us for the easter days, that must be a good sign, that this year is not totally lost, right?
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to read this post. It is soaked in the sunshine you felt the day your father came out into the garden. I get a sense of 'rejuvenation' in your words too Yamini.
ReplyDeleteYour moon picture is sublime.
Stay safe and I hope you get to escape the Hutch every now and then for more sunny days like this one.
Hugs. xx
Well done, Yam. A heartwarming post. Take care. xxx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post.
ReplyDeleteStay well.
Your dad looks wonderful and we know how great the spring sun feels on your face and body.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to sit and take in the sun. Do you have ramps for the wheelchair or are they needed? namaste, janice xx
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you and your dad got to spend some time outside and were also able to connect with the neighbors. We had some nice weather yesterday but today is a bit rainy and very windy.
ReplyDeleteNice of you to have got your father into the sunshine. Just coming out of the confines of our house itself can be refreshing. Also nice to know that he connected with the neighbours.
ReplyDeleteHi Yam - it's so good to see your Dad outside and in the sunshine. The garden looks delightful ... and what lovely neighbours - just checking in. So pleased for you - all the best Hilary
