Menocreatikul; Can You Stand It?

Slippers. I have discovered a small passion for them - in the crochet form! I had no idea how to approach them, but there are many 'recipes' online. I opted for this wonderful video 'workalongwith' pattern, which you saw last week.

There is quite of variety of approaches to these sock-like slippers and the thing that struck me was how delicious they are to wear. While I have been favouring the plain crochet sole on mine, I did do a textured ribbed sole on father's and there is no reason that couldn't be done on any pair. Having practiced the basic 'recipe', I decided to get truly creative and have a go at freeform.

This was using up some small scraps of mum's handspun, hence the 'patterning'. It worked well, but for me, they were a little slack. Mac1 is now happily wearing these ones. It started as a rectangle and then 'banded' to make the form and built up with a little ribbing around the ankle.

Other than slippers, Neighbour M requested a chair caddy similar to the one I had made father. She's very happy with it - though it is no great shakes in crochet terms, really.

On this side, I sewed an off-centre line to create two pockets.

The other side, a simple bow to tie it shut - if required.

  4. My mother crocheted so many slippers from the scraps of handspun she got from Jan and me. Our uncle turned in a pair annually for re-soleing.

  6. Great pattern - have you seen the crochet slippers made out of Granny squares? You can over-size them and then felt them down to size and its makes them keep their shape and be more hard wearing.

  9. Bertie likes that slipper design. There are gaps through which he can access bare feet to lick!

  11. I'm really liking the ankle-strap sandal type slippers! Much better than just the slip-ons they look like the sandals I wear all the time. I know your neighbor appreciated that to hang on her side of her chair.

  12. That chair caddy sounds like a great idea. I might give it a knitting go. At some point. In the future. When I have all the other things done that I want to make... (in the near future: a crocheted blanket. Hopefully)
