  1. My goodness me....thanks seems hardly enough for those who worked the coal mines.

  2. That's just wonderful! It seems Paul Robeson had quite a following in Scotland. One of my elderly neighbours, Dave, was apparently well known in his younger days for doing a fine and respectful turn as the great singer, at a time when 'blacking up' was not frowned on in the way it is today.
Anyway, thanks for sharing this video clip (where did you come across it?) It's cheered up what's been an grim day both weather-wise and news-wise, with a pub not a mile from my house now linked to new cluster of Covid cases in Aberdeen, and everyone nervous of further virus spread...
    Cheers, Gail.

  3. That is a very commanding voice - bet it was a joy for the miners to hear.

  4. I love his voice and I love seeing him standing in the center of all those manners faces. I bet it made their day or night! I'm familiar with coal miners because I spent five years of my childhood living in Kentucky where half the people I knew were coal manners

  5. Hi Yam - he had a wonderful voice ... and obviously had a good grasp of what was going on in the world - he certainly visited places. Thanks for this ... an amazing reminder of life back then. Take care - Hilary

  6. Such a wonderful clip of PR amongst the miners and singing for them. O, they would have liked that voice to the hilt.
