Menowerundering; The Seasons Turn

Not new... yet with each season, do we not find ourselves shaking shoulders, preparing homes, fluttering clothes and bedding... and having a sense of 'the new' as we shift from one to the other? Autumn (the 'fall' of leaves) is the favourite of many. I certainly enjoy it. There is a sense of breathing a little more deeply, of some kind of relaxation of the earth, and therefore (hopefully) life.

Returning to the Hutch, to the semi-remote West Coast town I call 'home' last Friday brought a much-needed sense of relief. Mac1 even agreed to stay two nights instead of her planned one. She needs as much of respite as I do. Until her retirement from service as a speech therapist in the NHS in January, however, she has to keep on going. We had a lovely time together though. As we drove through Gourock we noted a fish and chip shop open. Emergency stop! Fresh cooked scampi and Chips (Yes, I very occasionally break dietary regs!) to eat on the ferry over the water. It was truly delicious and saved having to think about cooking that first night. We just vegged, as mentioned yesterday, with a crossword, some catchup teevee and also some of the necessary debriefing re our father.

On Saturday, we lazed into the mid-morning then decided to go for a run in the car - despite it not at all being sunshine or warm. Just a wee jaunt down the spit, making use of the chance for me to rid myself of two bags of glass jars and bottles (we don't have a home collection of glass for recycling yet...)

The Clyde's water was flat and the air was still. There was that kind of quiet that comes with a season biting in. The light was glary and the water seemed to turn to milk. Yes. I do love Autumn...

  1. YAM what a wonderful post about your first weekend at your beloved Hutch. The last paragraph speaks volumes to the joy and inspiration you have there. So glad you can spend several weeks of Autumn there

  7. Bertie and I are so pleased that you're safely back at the Hutch and enjoyed some relaxation with Mac1. I too had fish and chips yesterday, sat at an outside table at the Boat Inn at Aboyne with friends M&J. Delicious!

  8. It is so important to recharge batteries and when you can do that with a loved one at your side, all the better. And sometimes just watching something on the telly or doing your crosswords is all it takes for a sense of peace.
I must admit that reading your post today really brought home once again that I miss my sister. When monetary or work reasons keep you apart it is one thing, but not being able to see one another due to health reasons and travel restrictions, it is hard. My sister was due to come over in May, then in July and now we are having everything crossed for Christmas. Even though me and my parents barely believe in it anymore.
I just wanted to say: enjoy your time with your family. It may be hard at times, it may be tough, it may be heart wrenching and absolutely exhausting, but it is also a blessing as I am finding out by the day.
    Big klem

  10. I can feel your joy at being home to your Hutch. So much Beauty and I know you missed it and also missed everything that's in your lovely home. And just the fact that you're home. Big sigh of relief and two weeks to remove all the stress. Of course I know you have a big decision to make and that adds to the stress but at least at home it's better than if you're not at home. Love that picture of the lighthouse coming up out of the water looks like a piece of art

  14. Those photos were better than calgon, they took me to a place without cancer, covid or family separations. My next sister time will be helping care for Sis #1 when she returns home from the hospital. She is doing really good with less pain than expected, mainly soreness from all the surgeries. Thanks for all the good thoughts. namaste, janice xx

  15. Hi Yam - late getting here ... but your mental plea for some downtime and switching off to allow yourself time to heal - I do hope has happened. Fish and Chips - yes I had a plate this week ... first I've had for possibly years! Take care = and all the best in the days and weeks ahead ... stay safe - Hilary
