It's the week in which this needs to be done. Another cousin has come up with the goods - the first image is dad aged somewhere between 10 and 12 years. When I got Jade, he was inclined to spoil her. This surprised me, as we had always been told we couldn't have a dog as kids. I thought it was because he didn't like them.
Turns out it was because he was so devasted when his boyhood chum died, he never got over it and didn't want to ever face that again. However, we did face it with cats and tortoises and fish and rabbits... so he didn't escape entirely from facing the end of life.
The second shot is taken, I think, on the Scottish west coast and is clearly a hydro dam somewhere.
Macs 2 and 3 will be here this evening. Big day tomorrow.
Aw. I'm glad you'll be together!

How devastating to him must have been the loss of his dog that me never told his children about something so special and so loved by him. Loving memories need to be talked about, relived, laughed over. Best wishes for tomorrow - tears and laughter be upon you. xxx F and Mr T
ReplyDeleteYour recollections of the misunderstanding about your father's attitude to dogs reminds me how, when I was a child, my father always claimed he supported my desire for a dog, and blamed the fact we couldn't have one on the fact that neither my mother nor my granny (who lived with us) were keen on dogs. But when, age 40, I acquired Hamish, it soon became clear that my mother was a complete pushover regarding her 'petsy' and it was my father who took longer to come round (although he did in time).
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
we understand your dad... my parents think the same way... hugs and positive thoughts for tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteDear Yam - so feeling for you ... your father must have been devastated at his chum's loss and so no wonder he didn't want to experience that again ... Jade looks delightful ... good the cousins have helped ... all the best for today - and then for what I hope will be a dry day tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you - all the very best with hugs - Hilary
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet photo of your dad and his buddy♥ Love and hugs to you, YAM♥
ReplyDeleteI love these photos you are sharing with us. the last one today is my favorite so far.. I love it! Prayers for your day and that it doesn't rain. My dad hated dogs and cats, my mother was like me and so was my brother. Daddy compromized and let us have ONE dog outside, never to be in the house... he never did come around and like pets.. no idea why. several times in my child hood we had 3 to 6 strays that were accidently fed by me.. ha ha
ReplyDeleteHello Yamini, vintage pics; and a flood of memories, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteWe had cats, many in fact. At one point, when we were in Kerala, there are 12; three or four generations co-existing.
It's good fun.
One year we had a Chandler family reunion. I brought my scanner, some flash drives and everyone shared old photos. It was wonderful! So pleased your family is sharing the unique photos. namaste, janice xx
