Menolyrical; Final Friday Fiction

Golly, that was a quick month. Do you think it was a quick month? I really think that month was quick... get over it, YAM.

It's that time again to let the words flow as they will, as prompted by an image. In this case, one I have manipulated from an old photograph I took while in India.

Pearl Of The Night

shimmering in the blanket of black that is the tropical universe

glimmering through the counterpane of eucalypts and star-sparked raindrops

whispering to the vapours of the void twixt thee and all that's here

glistening in the reflected light that is your brother's warmth yet

chillening the eye that gazeth upon thee no burning thine

whimpering I blur thee with the salted water heart drops blinding

soakering you absorb and exalt the ripping tearing egotist

soothening and leavening and calming and resizing everything.

  3. Can we say our first thought on seeing the image was 'praying mantis'? Pearls must be a theme this month https://tiggerswee-blog.blogspot.com/2021/05/final-friday-fiction-bear-with-pearl.html: (but we don't write like you do). Evocative and suggestive of a deep searching within the soul at that time.

  4. Soakering - now that's anew word!!! Very good though. I like the images that poets and writers convey. J A Baker who wrote The Peregrine (read it - best nature book ever!) described the flight of bats as their 'dry freaking' - that's just so good.

I've relegated myself from any more book purchases until I have reduced my current and rather excessive pile... but it has been duly noted and 'wishlisted'!!! Yxx

  8. That's a beautiful poem, and if read with thought provokes the most touching images. I have no poetry to share, but...when I look at that intriguing picture, I see, through a round window, a very young child, probably a black child because of the hair, who is throwing his head back while being held.
