To clear away confusion it is Neomarica Gracilis - common names are Wandering (or Walking) Iris, or Poor Man's Orchid though it is neither an iris, nor an orchid!
I think this is very true, and I sense applies to kindness and generosity too. We all carry regrets and shame and a litany things we wish we had done differently... by being kind to ourselves we can be more generous to others too. They will reciprocate in their turn.
