Many of us are prone to 'self-flagellation,' but that is not what this refers to. Here, it is about the analysis of one's own motives and intentions. So yes, look at the faults and deeds... but do not fall to circular self-condemnation. Instead, understand the why of thing that causes a prick to the heart or mind and become aware enough to grow from it and not allow that particular 'fault' to arise again. That is self-development. 4. I try my best not to regret over what happened. I tell myself: what is gone past is behind me. I need to look forward and take care in future.

  5. Love it! I am pretty good at beating myself up. I have found that listing at least 5 things I am grateful for today, as I am in bed getting ready to sleep, helps me to keep my self destruction in line. I find practicing gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things I'm thankful for helps me to experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, and express more compassion and kindness.
