Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms
This week, a song of yearning; love torn apart by exile. In this case, the singer is distant from the home island of Jura and mourns the green bens (hillsides) and the lover who may or may not have betrayed her. She longs to be buried with at least some of Jura's soil upon her... this song was written in the 1990s by the band and there are fusion influences from Eastern Europe incorporated and I could not help but think of all those families torn asunder in the current conflict...

ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
it is perfect for a da in summer... like today ;O)
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying this month's offerings from Capercaillie. I have a CD of their music in Torridon.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail (now back in Aberdeen for a week before heading off on the big trip south).

DeleteAye, their music gets into the ear - and heart... Have a good trip when it comes around, though take all precautions. The rising figures on COVID again are quite concerning; on average the figures indicate that every 40th person you come within close contact has the potential of passing infection. Hands, Face, Space - and test! Yxx
Hi Yam - yes definitely yearning for home ... lovely to hear - thank you - Hilary

ReplyDeleteYes that beautiful, unfortunately, applies to now. Some history should not repeat itself

a haunting tune -- sounds hopeful to me.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe never fail to be amazed how wide you cast your net and what you find for us to enjoy or broaden our experience on. F just gets lost if she starts trying to follow stuff through offerings like you tube. She stumbled linto a great one on keas the other day but couldn't work out how to copy the address for it and couldn't find it in a search for it when she tried to find it a second time. How stupid is that? (And she had watch history turned off.) Furrings and purrings YAM-aunty, Mr T
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed the song. Thanks for the background on it too.
ReplyDeleteLoved the strings - haunting. Reminded me of Catalano''s Refugee.
