Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms

There was an anthem to the age of communication wherein nobody listens, written back in the 1960s. I think you will know it. You'd be a rare person if not! However, I wonder if you have heard this cover of it?

Disturbed is a heavy metal band from Chicago. Vocalist, David Draiman, trained as a hazzan - Jewish cantor. He has a fine baritone voice but also intense grit to it for that metal feel. In producing this version of The Sound of Silence, the band nailed the essence of the message so well, bringing it right up to 21st-century pertinence, that Paul Simon publicly endorsed the cover. In this official video, it is clear that the message of non-communication affects not only each individual from the social perspective but the fear of speaking out means that our environment is also at risk. What is that saying? For danger to arise, it only takes 'good men' to say nothing?

Listen deeply... there is brass, there are strings... there are timpani!

  6. His voice is unexpectedly beautiful for heavy metal artist.
I cannot stop thinking about how/why he has piercings in his chin. Just the thought of biting my lip hurts I cannot imagine piercings that deep. Hoping they are some how just pasted on.

  11. One of my all time favorites. Every time I hear it, I can't help but sing along even though I can't really sing. This was a powerful and emotion-filled rendition. Thanks for sharing.
