Menoturals; Saturday Sounds Of Nature

The bird I bring you for today's wee 'chill oot' is not one that visited my own yard. However, when visiting my cousin in South Australia, she had them visiting daily. I even managed to get a half-decent shot...

The New Holland Honeyeater... New Holland being the original name for Australia. The call, when you are standing in the yard beside it, is surprisingly ear-piercing!

  1. It's a delightful bird, YAM, and one that was common throughout my two visits to Australia. It is doubtless waiting for you to go back and renew your acquaintance.

  2. Seemingly they are found in my area…..just don’t seem to visit my garden though!

  3. One of the slight downsides of where I live is the lack of garden birds - there are many reasons: positioning, cats, climate.. We have the coast of course, and truly marvellous it is, but I do wish we had more in our little back yard.
PS. I have copy of my book for you - they arrived yesterday!

  5. F's first thought when she heard it was exactly what Joanna had written when we scrolled down. Does it raid bee nests?

Pretty much dedicated nectarians - with very occasional forays into fruit, spiders and other insects. Yxx

The New Holland Honey Eater is tweeting in first soprano...but it is a very nice melody and I love the little pops of yellow

  12. The bird song just woke up my dog. Not sure she enjoyed the twitter, but I did. Right before our snow storms, which are still going on this morning, I heard a lot of bird twitter and wondered if my house finches had arrived back early, fooled by global warming. Now I will worry about them. I hope they will know what to do in this snow storm.
