What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

This week I bring you the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo. Nowhere near as prevalent as its Sulphur-crested cousin, it is still fairly common in some places. I had none near me, but a friend up in the Blue Mountains had these more or less as backyarders. I never did manage a photo of one, though...

An extensive vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteSimply amazing range of "words".
ReplyDeleteAnother spectacular (and noisy( bird). If I heard some of those sounds in Aberdeen I'd worry some creature was being tortured!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
he is gorgeous to look at and wow, what a vocabulary! Nobby hit it on the head, does sound tortured at times..
ReplyDeleteAll of the cockatoos of Australia are amazing birds on a grand scale and a true delight for birders visiting from other parts of the world. I don't really have a "favourite" bird, but if I did Sulphur-crested Cockatoo would be high on the list. I say that as I sit here sipping coffee from my Sulphur-crested Cockatoo mug, gazing at a collection of their feathers. That's contentment!
ReplyDeleteHe is amazing and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI would love to see and hear this Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo. He/she is really loud at times. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post! Take care, have a happy weekend!
New and most handsome Cockatoo. I love the yellow patches on his cheeks

ReplyDeleteOops, I was trying to say that the recording was pretty amazing. Birds are fascinating creatures. My brother lives out in the country and near a river that's a migratory path, and it's always a delight to see which avians are visiting.
DeleteWow! This is amazing. Such a range of sounds.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing! What a great bird to see AND hear!
ReplyDeleteWhat interesting sounds that Cockatoo makes. Thanks for introducing us to it.
ReplyDeleteCockatoos, amaze me with both their vocal range...and with just how loud they can get!
ReplyDeleteAustralian bush must be quite a cacophany at times. F's Grandad had a story about listening to NZ news in Aussie outback (LW) and the news zlways started with birdcall of the day. That foreign bird used to set the locals screeching and yelling.
ReplyDeleteAs for tortured, nothing does tortured like peacocks do.
