Me-Now-Views; Less Speak More Peek

Random shots from the First Trip collection...

Aitch contemplates the Northumbrian hillsides from the Three Wheatsheafs at Thropton

The Grey contemplates having to wait for lunching drivers

The driver contemplates how rare it is to find paid parks that permit such exception

...and then contemplates cold chickpea curry on a hot summer's eve park-up

33'C topped out on the 25th of June. The Grey and his driver took a couple of hours
under the trees in Thetford Forest.

  2. Is that Hornbeam? The leaves look so long..but it could be the camera angle.

Yup - Carpinus Betutus... I did have to research it as the reason it got snapped at all was that I didn't recognise it! Yxx

Well spotted! In fact, many of the round tower churches of East Anglia started out as defensive towers with chapels added later! Yxx

    2. This use to be the thought but in the late 20thcent. studies were carried out and it is now believed that the towers are contemporary with their churches or even built later. See this interesting article: https://www.buildingconservation.com/articles/roundtower/roundtower.htm

  6. I’m curious. Wheatsheafs! Should that not be Wheatsheaves? I am a fan of chickpeas and a lover of curry, but cold chickpea curry doesn’t sound like the most appetizing dish I have come across!

The Grey is looking fantastic in the forest and the camera and the handler are taking super shots. what a view under that umbrella, and you have seen more in a couple of weeks than I have in YEARS. the layby in the woods is beautiful. your lunch looks just like what you used to show us when you were in your flat.. of course the last photo is my favorite and you will know the reason why

  9. I have been away - as I seem to be a lot these days. But how nice to see Thropton in your photograph; I lived near to Rothbury and the Simonside hills for many years. I'm keen to return on my motorbike (fab new toy!) this Autumn. The North will always, I think, exert a gravitational pull of home to me.
