What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Continuing with the small bird entries in this wee series, the Goldfinch demands its place! This pretty wee bird is spotted flying around and resting in the Beech trees outside my window every day, often in quite large flocks. They never fail to attract the eye. My lens has yet to capture a properly clear image of them, though; they are jittery and flittery, so one has to work fast!

Desperate singing! 😇
ReplyDeleteThere's a poem of Ted Hughes in which the "twitching chirrup" of a goldfinch plays a significant role. Now I understand why Hughes was fascinated.
ReplyDeleteThe goldfinch is perhaps an example of a bird which looks prettier than it sounds! These days, seeing them always makes me think of Donna Tartt's magnificent novel, 'The Goldfinch'.
ReplyDeleteChees, Gail.
Your Goldfinch is beautiful, it was another bird I was lucky to see in Ireland. Take care, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletePS, thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Enjoy your day!
DeleteYour Goldfinch looks a wee bit different from ours here. Love the Goldfinch. He is one of my favorites with his happy song!
ReplyDeletei have never seen one, let alone a flock of them. i can tell you that the past few weeks I fee just like this one sounds. he/she is adorable and if heard in nature i would be fine with his chitty chitty bang bang
ReplyDeleteIt sometimes seems that every time someone visits the UK there is a discussion about whether “our” goldfinch or “your” goldfinch is more attractive. Can we all agree that they are both wonderfully attractive and appealing birds and there is no need to rank them? They are both beautiful!

DeleteReally? I have never heard such a discussion - but agree there ought not to be a competition of comparison! Yxx
Capturing the elusive Goldfinch sounds like a delightful challenge in your Saturday Sounds series. These small, vibrant birds are known for their agility and quick movements, making it a task to capture a clear image. The beauty of nature often lies in these spontaneous and lively moments. Your dedication to observing and attempting to photograph them adds a special touch to the series. Any memorable encounters or behaviors of the Goldfinches that stand out to you?

DeleteGood question! At least once a week the whole flock seems to gather for a conference on the top of the Beech trees over the road from the Hutch's windows and I simply delight in all their voices and flitterings. The rejoice when I get even a half-decent shot like the one above! Yxx
What a beautiful voice and OMBs a surprise of red on the sweet face
ReplyDeleteOur Gold Finches are they are jittery and flittery too. Quite different in color from yours

Hi there - wonderful birds - charming in fact. I have most recently seen the American version of this species! As I think you know I have just returned from a rather long trip and jet lag lingers! Hope all is well.

They are lovely birds, all!
ReplyDeleteMr B used to have an aviary with finches (as a kid) but we seldom see finches in the garden these days.
ReplyDeleteQuite a pretty bird.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little bird with a sweet call.
