What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Me-Now-Views; Less Speak More Peek...

...though a few more words than usual and some threads to follow - think of it like a blogging geocache!

Last Friday, I shared with you the statue of James Thomson, poet songwriter and lover of the words of Burns - here are some brass additions to the monument, sharing some of the words of Thomson himself, which echo the style of his 'idol': followed by an arty-farty shot of part of the statue and the bridge bearing the man's name. The Border Queen is a particular favourite of the town, and I recall my Grandad singing it! Here is a recording by The Mosstroopers. For those who can't follow the lingo, here are the written lyrics. Who are the Mosstroopers? Check this out. The mention in that of the CD is where that recording came from. If you are entertained by such as this, you can hear the rest here!

After that, a view of Hawick's High Street, south end, where it joins Sandbed (just that, not road or street) from the top floor of the Tower Museum: and to end, a quirky little thing. Several of these wee baaaaaaaaad boys dotted around the museum!

  2. the atsy fartsy is my favorite and the window view is almost my favorite and the last one comes in a 3. I did try to read all the words, and somewhat need a translator. I love the concrete open book... there are a few notes in The Border Queen that sound a little familar. of course none of the words do. ha ha

  10. Your man appears to have been as much a fan of Hawick and its people as he was of the style of Burns. A fitting memorial to him.

  12. It's a really nice inscription to the person. Liking the sheep, it's an animal we see just about everywhere here.
