Yesterday, I wrote of the trip back to The Hutch and how the winter sun brightened the last part of my drive. There are some who think Dunoon is in the hinterland of this Bonny land, well out in the sticks. They wouldn't be entirely wrong. However, that is a major part of the attraction for me. Particularly if one takes the land route rather than the ferry. It shines in all weathers, and there is something special about how winter marks the scenery. For the historically-minded, you can read about Butter Bridge on this link.
Definitely chilly (and beautiful) photos. Brrrr! And then the intense color of the oxalis.
ReplyDeletePretty flower.
ReplyDeleteWinter does make the earth look creepy.
ReplyDeleteits the time to ponder and to refelct... and this places are made for that...
ReplyDeleteLove the bridge and the flowers are just gorgeous - all of the photos are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLovely scenes and photos. I love the bridge, the mountain dusted with snow and the beautiful water view and the flowers.
ReplyDeleteTake care, have a great day!
That old bridge is glorious. There is something so timeless and beautiful about these ancient structures. I suppose that one could use all manner of metaphorical conjecture about them, but their sheer, rock-solid presence is enough for me. Please, embark on a tour of Scotland and photograph every old bridge you can find. Produce a book and you can accept this email as my advance subscription. With my very best wishes - David
ReplyDeleteHi Yam - love the Butter Bridge - the name itself entices ... and 1749 is a while ago!! I'm so glad you obviously enjoy being out and about in the Grey ... and we delight with your photos a views of world around ... but I'm glad I'm down here on the slightly warmer south coast!! Not good for the environment I know ... we need a bitter cold to sort things out. Cheers and here's to more - Hilary
ReplyDeleteAtmospheric scenes of the bridge . Fairy tale (real faery tale not Disneyfied stuff) sort or inspiration. I see the snow and low sun, and sense the dark chill and then you find a splash of neon somewhere. I didn't realize oxalis is that tough.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I wish I had gone to Scotland when I lived in London, I always knew I would love it there. And you are proving me right with all these gorgeous pictures. So grateful for the size of the photos. And that bridge! Ancient? It looks ancient. Thank you for all of it.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful Winter-scapes....and WOW, Rosy and I love the gorgeous and contrasting pink bloom and it's vibrant greenery!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely scenery and how amazing that the bridge is still standing all these centuries later.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing so well, featuring your wonderful country. I do wish I liked to travel!
