Menoturals; Clyde Views

Today, for Nature Friday, I bring more shots from my visit to Glasgow last weekend. As mentioned yesterday, I parked by the science museum. Although I didn't enter the museum, I enjoyed the surroundings and the views it offered. We were blessed with two decent spring days, adding to the pleasure - and the lighting.

This is where the Clyde, having thundered down from the Lanarkshire hills, has now widened and deepened and become suitable for large ships to sail right up to the city. One day I'll stop at the Maritime and Transport museum, which you can see here along the other bank... and this shows that it was quite decently warm, as there is the blue tinge of heat haze!

In the other direction, one gets a good view of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Armadillo and O2 buildings, the Millenium Bridge and the Titan Crane.

The Rock Doves were all getting properly 'romantic'... this beauty had several males after her, and who could blame them?!

The little water habitats around the science centre had lots of rush grasses—there was not much sign of this year's crop, but there were plenty left from last year.

Late on Sunday, it was time to drive away again into a glorious sunset and to a park up called the Kilmalcolm Lookout. That evening, due to the day's warmth, there was a haar over the view... but the next day, we could see the mighty Clyde, now become an estuary, Helensburgh on the far side, Greenock down the hill from us.

The hills on the left-most part of this view are the Arrochar Alps, and those to the centre and right are the Trossachs. Hettie loves a view like this.

Oh, and here's a ring-in from the quilt show sneakily taken by Mac1: it shows the YAMster in her natural habitat of the creative, colourful and cryptic...

  6. Pigeons being “romantic” is commonplace at virtually any time of year. They are permanently randy I think. Lots of interesting stuff to read on sperm storage and sperm selection. Fascinating stuff. Tim Birkhead’s “Sperm Competition and Sexual Selection” is a good place to start.
