Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms

Some musical inspiration came my way from a neighbour in Dunoon... just chatting in the street (as is often the case here..."Oh hellooo, nae seen ye since lang, whitya up tae?" Anyway, for reasons not worth going into here, we talked about a show called The Change. I hadn't heard of it, but she was enjoying it. As I have, now that I've binge-watched. Mind you, it's not for everyone. It will talk to those of us who know the experience (or something akin) to that of the protagonist.

I am not here to promote the show. The music IN the show, however, is what brings us to this month's choices for the musical interlude each week. I adored the theme tune, which will appear here soon, but also some of the incidental music and backing. It sent me foraging...

The musical artist Nick Hart appears in the show at the eel festival (......... up to you......) with his concertina. Not this song, but given it's May, I couldn't resist bringing you this one to start us off. It's one of the many May songs dating back to the seventeenth century and relates to the bursting of spring. It is, compared to some more bawdy offerings, quite prayerful.

  5. I have always enjoyed 16-18th century folk music from England, Scotland and Ireland. This is no different, so beautiful with that wonderful back beat!
