Menonday Art Vibe; Architectural Observations

The two artists I'm bringing to you today were not familiar names at all. There is no doubt about their drawing skill, though! What was interesting about both these articles is that they were created away from their homeland.

The first is a slightly gruesome subject, but very much of its time. I was captured by the architectural part of this image, first of all (that being a 'thing' of mine). However, once I started to appreciate that every figure in the crowd was individually marked out, I was agog at the work that had gone into this image. I do downsize my images for posting, so biggification may not necessarily prove my point, but truly, right at the back of that crowd, where lesser artists might have been tempted to 'fudge' somewhat, every figure has its own presence. Astounding work.

Then we move to the lighter, brighter work of the lads at play. I loved the airiness of the piece, the relaxed nature of the inhabitants... and the architecture of the Roman remains.

Oh... and of course I had to find out about Pallone. Apart from simply being the Italian word for ball (and the root from which we get the English word balloon), it relates to games with balls, which differ a bit between regions. Read more here.
