What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menonday Art Vibe; Far And Near

The next two images from the Lowlands masters are by the same artist, again, and a name I believe most of you will recognise.

Neither of these sketches was large. For the first, I show you the whole image, which was approximately A4 in size. The second was much the same height, but twice the breadth. A little long for one frame and, anyway, a sparser collection of figures, so I decided to share with you a close-up so that you could better appreciate (I hope) the pen to the page, have a sense of the artist's hand even now, all these centuries later... the amount of detail that one can collate in such medium, in the days before photography was even a theory. If you would like to view the second piece in its entirety, check this page.

  1. Just passing by and saying hello. The lower picture is especially nice I thought … and then I looked again at the upper one - both so skilled; such economy and simplicity. Good qualities and not just in drawing.

  5. I like the scene with the windmill and boat. Interesting watercolors. Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.

  6. The drawings are beautiful but I prefer the first one more than the second.
