Neither of these sketches was large. For the first, I show you the whole image, which was approximately A4 in size. The second was much the same height, but twice the breadth. A little long for one frame and, anyway, a sparser collection of figures, so I decided to share with you a close-up so that you could better appreciate (I hope) the pen to the page, have a sense of the artist's hand even now, all these centuries later... the amount of detail that one can collate in such medium, in the days before photography was even a theory. If you would like to view the second piece in its entirety, check this page.
Just passing by and saying hello. The lower picture is especially nice I thought … and then I looked again at the upper one - both so skilled; such economy and simplicity. Good qualities and not just in drawing.
ReplyDeleteI love how he arranged all things... it looks as if we could do one step and are a part of this world..
ReplyDeleteThe level of detail is remarkable.

My inadequacy is reinforced this morning!
ReplyDeleteI like the scene with the windmill and boat. Interesting watercolors. Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThe drawings are beautiful but I prefer the first one more than the second.
ReplyDeleteOne can never go wrong with sketches of windmills, water and boats
