Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms

Last for this month, but by no means least, we have Jacopo Peri, August 20th, 1561, Italy. This was the composer this month for which I felt the greatest affinity and would seek out more. Peri is mostly acknowledged for bringing in the concept of 'opera' - secular, theatrical singing in a staged setting. His first opera is considered mostly lost, but the oldest known true opera, which is still performed, is his... Euridice.

Here is a sweet and loving lullaby...you sleep the sweet sleep...

  5. Quite sublime, YAM. Beautifully sung. You have made some fine choices over this series. I will look forward to more of your selections and your informed notes to accompany them. When you are ready to accept suggestions from others I have one at the ready. Quite different from the lilting piece today, but significant and well known. Enjoy what remains of Wednesday! David

Thank you for your support of the musicalisms posts, David! I am always ready to receive suggestions ... in fact, as October is a five-Wednesday month, how about something for the fifth week? And another for December 31st... that one carries a bit of responsibility as it sees us into 2026! Yxx
