Menoizikul; Midweek Musicalisms

Last birthday for this month is a little uncertain as to the actual day, so Juan Bautista Comes is only listed as being born in this month in the year of 1582, in Valencia, Spain. (There may even be a doubt as to the month - and even the year... but we'll take it to fill this space!) He was known for composing vernacular Iberian music, called villancicos, but also polyphonic choral works, of which I now share an example. A rather fine voice performance, I hope you will agree.

  5. Beautiful...
I can only imagine how long it takes to learn all that from memory, and then to coordinate it for a performance! I wonder if that is part of a mass, judging by the words?
