WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Menonday Art Vibe; Home Hangs Series

Art is definitely an 'eye of the beholder' medium as to what we are prepared to purchase and hang on our walls or with which to otherwise decorate. Of course we can admire all the great masters and, perhaps, hanker after owning a Kandinsky, a Chagall, perhaps a Pro Hart, or Albert Namatjira... Dream on!

When, in 1991/2, there was an exhibition at the NSW National Gallery featuring works from the Guggenheim, I became completely, deeply, absolutely head over heels in love with Franz Marc's Yellow Cow... go on, hop over and take a look.

It wasn't just the subject (you know by now how in love with farm animals I am!). It was the scale of the thing (full wall size - i.e. mahoosive)... it was the joy which sprang from the colours and the cow's expression... it was the vibrancy of the brush strokes seen up close and the sense of connecting with the artist over all the years and distance.

So, when visiting my favourite local gallery in Upper Northern Sydney, which is run for and by artists with learning difficulties and impaired circumstances, on one of my return trips since coming to Scotland, imagine my joy at finding this little piece.

Completely different from the work of Marc in every sense, yet every bit as captivating, moving and uplifting, and I now have on my wall, at last, A Yellow Cow...

  1. From admiring one at an exhibition to finally having one for yourself. How nice!
