WYSIWYG

What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

Me-noo-oot-an-aboot; the fuller picture "A"

There it was then, a visitor from overseas and one met via blogging no less.  Not the first of course. There was my visit to BOZO and his family in Mumbai. I certainly hope this is not the last connection I expand upon from the ether-community.

As you read yesterday, then, there was much fun had on a little road trip.  Really we did not go far at all.  That's Scotland for you though.  Quality AND quantity - be warned though, there is a 'quantity of piccies' here!!!

Just outside Dunoon is the village of Sandbank; that's it we are driving into in the top photo and <<this is the view most folk have who live and work here.

We were only a handful of miles further on before stopping again. Jubilee point I shared with you before; and will again.  Here's a map they had put up since that last visit. You can clearly see 'we were there' and where it is in relation to Dunoon. Also, right at the top you can see Inverary and on the left, down Loch Fyne, Achnish. It was just out of there where we found the farm museum.

Inverary is a place I had visited several times in early life but is dim in memory.  It was wonderful to visit again now; especially as it meant a quick lunchtime hook-up with family.  On the waterside are these two fine vessels.

The red one is the Vital Spark. (Reaaad allll about it!!!) The town is very well kept and the buildings mainly of 18th century construction, though of course there is longer history here than that.

Left, the back of a row of tenement buildings which would have homed workers on the Duke of Argyll's estates.  Above, the town hall and distant behind it Inverary Gaol (now 'living' museum).

Below, the top of Main Street West

(...Yesterday you saw from the other end...)

There was a fascinating Episcopalian church and tower here too - but I don't want to spoil it for Mara's telling of the visit (she took 25% more photos than myself and which she will get round to on her return to Norway...password issues...well she has visited the Mess Hole of Menosoup here...) However, here is a wee glimpse; a taster, if you will.

The candelabra by the entrance.  It had two walking sticks and two 'bunnets' (caps) hanging off it. One wonders whether these were left last Sunday, or simply await the convenience of those in need!

Tomorrow, there will be some from the rest of our Wonderful Wednesday.

Suffice to say the sun is not with us today....sigh...

  1. I'm so glad you've had a visit with Mara. Isn't she a delight? All bouncing energy and get-to-it-iveness which I lack. Lindy and I met her an hour north of Calgary, and from there went west to the Rockies and east to the Badlands. Mountains she had met before. Badlands she fell in love with immediately.

  5. Splendid photos, Yam. This is not an area I know, but I'd have known it was Scotland without any words. :-)
