FFHT - Slithery Supper

Fun Fun FunOver at Murphy and Stanley's place it is last Friday of the month story day... click the badge to read more!!!.

They give us a prompt sentence, which we have to weave into our tale (highlighted), but the story can go anywhere it wants to... the approach on MY TAKE TOO is to use photo prompts so for this theme I seek to do my usual but incorporate the FFHT prompt as well.

Wilma took her fish and chips down to the loch's edge so that she could enjoy them in the traditional way; out of paper and with fingers only.  The smell of the vinegar was wafting up from the bag, causing her to salivate. Spotting a lady and her furkids having great fun in the water, she decided to settle down on the grass bank behind them.

She drew the paper-wrapped, hot and steaming food from the now sweaty plastic bag. Almost with reverence, Wilma began the peeling away of the paper layers to reveal ...

"What??!!" She yelped.  Peering at the pile of chips she could not make out what was on top of them.  She had asked for the 'fish of the day'.  What was lying on top of the pile was not anything like the usual battered fillet of sea flesh she was expecting.  Instead, there were ribbons of something that looked like... well she wasn't sure what. Wilma ate a few chips as she contemplated the suspicious looking 'fish'.  Picking one up she sniffed it.

Smelled like fish.  Tentatively, a nibble was taken.  Tasted fishy.

The texture, though, was definitely not of fish.  It was crunchy and soft at the same time. Not rubbery yet resistant to chewing... the taste was okay though so Wilma continued with her picnic meal.

Shortly, the lady and her dogs came up from the water, coming quite close to Wilma. The lady smiled. "Fine day," she called out. Wilma smiled and nodded back.  Then she decided to ask the lady if she knew what the strange fish was. "Do you mind if I ask you something?"  The lady said it was fine.

Picking up one of the ribbon things, Wilma showed it and asked, "Would you know what this is? I have never seen anything like it before."

"Och aye, thon's sea slug."

Wilma could feel her face twinge with surprise. "Oh my gosh I can't believe I ate that!!" The lady grinned. "Dinny concern yersel' lass. 'Tis a local dish; it's caught richt here in the loch.  Have ye no enjoyed it then?"

"Well...yes...kind of..."

"There ye go.  Enjoy the rest!"

As the lady left, Wilma looked back at the paper. She noted that she had eaten most of the slug anyway. Only two bits remained.  "Oh well, waste not want not," she muttered to herself.

**I am sorry that I cannot remove the "P" symbol from appearing over your hop entry. It is for the convenience of my readers that use & enjoy the site to pin my photos. I will see what I can do to eliminate it from appearing over the hops. Thanks ☺
