Menolyrical; Words for Words' Sake

Veggie Life

It was all I wanted to do
Sleep in the ground so dark and moist
Safe and wrapped all around
When along came the farmer and OW!

Not alone every carrot sister too
Was lifted and thrown into the cart
We were not yet full grown
But that didn’t stop the gouging plough.

Tumbled and tossed and onward sold
Helpless we went along with the peas
To market we were sent
Only to have our very worst fears

Confirmed for then came the kitchen
Where Someone’s wife cut sharp through our flesh
With a short blunted knife
Deaf she was to this vegetable’s tears.
