Me-Now-Views; Less Speak More Peek

...The title is a bit of a misnomer this week as, in fact, I do speak!!! Yes, after a handful of requests resulting from the Farmer's Interview (see sidebar if you missed it), wondering about my accent. As I said at the time, I believe it is fairly neutral, with strongish hints of Aussie. The Scottish tends not to arrive unless I am talking to a Scot..or thinking specifically about something Scottish. Same with the Mumbai twang (although, interestingly, there are some similarities between that and the Scots, such as the well round vowels and rolling 'r').  Anyhoo, not the best voiceover I've ever done, but it is unscripted and 'first take'. Whaddya hear???

...and of course now I listen back to myself I realise I said 'warm' when in fact I meant 'chill'!!! Mac2 had to pull on her ...mac...  as it even threatened a few spits of rain.  It was a lovely outing though, and we hooked up with Mac1 and the Maestro (who had been among the picnickers) for a ride home.

  5. Unfortunately I heard nothing on the video, but just saw a blank screen and a message saying 'this video is private'. But in when we met in person I heard a faint note of Australian, for sure.
I may be deluding myself, but I think my accent - pretty much standard BBC English, although with the short 'a' of someone born north of Watford Gap - stays pretty much the same whomever I'm with.
    Cheers!
    Gail.

    2. OK thanks, got it now. Your voice sounds very attractive and 'musical' on the video.
      Cheers, Gail.
PS Did I ever tell you how I once shared an office with a geologist called Heather Auld and we stuck an Edinburgh postcard on our door saying 'Welcome to Auld Reekie'!

PHEW>.... oh I think Bertie once 'dobbed' you in on that one! Yes, I thought it was very clever of the RBGE to market this flower event as New Reekie!! They actually don't know if it will ever flower again, so am very glad I made the effort to get there. Yxx

  6. OMD!! OMD!!! OMD!!! We were SHOCKED!! The video DID play for us (went to You Tube) and we found it hard to even see the photos cuz we were listening to your voice so much! We could NOT put our paw on exactly what we heard only that it was NOT what we expected BOL! First of all, we thought we heard an Aussie accent but it was not as "sharp" (defined??) as what we would expect. We didn't hear any Mumbai and Scottish just every now and again. We laughed that you considered it mostly neutral BOL! Nothing neutral about it, we think it is a tapestry! Yes, a very lovely tapestry! Thanks for the sound!

Yes, the Aussie is the strongest influence, but it does wander about a bit! The gorgeous meadow flowers attracted lots of bees and there were one or two small butterflies, but not as many as I would have hoped. Yxx

  13. We watch and listen to the video quite easily. You have a lovely voice and would be a wonderful reader for novel or the newspapers for the blind. We from Cincinnati have kind of an accent even though we are in the center of the United States. We say please when we don't understand what you have said or use please for excuse me ~ we add an L to idea when we speak, sayings are part of our heritage.
    Thanks for being a friend
