What You See Is What You Get. This is a journal blog, an explore-blog, a bit of this and that blog. Sharing where the mood takes me. Perhaps it will take you too.

It will not have escaped the notice of regular readers that the YAMster is very much inclined to the philosophical. One of the greatly relieving things which has been inculcated from the study of Vedanta is that death is only another step in life.  To some extent, most folk are aware of this, but there is so much attachment to the body (and other 'bodies') that a great fear arises at the thought of such a departure. Not so much in the one departing (though therein lies a whole other post), but in those who must say the farewell.

This little film looks at what it is for Death itself to be doing the farewell. Furthermore, in it we see how Death is an ever-present part of life and that, if we befriend that idea, our end will be peaceful and correct. Enjoy every moment, but accept the impermanence and embrace the leaving. You may wish to have a hanky handy. Jus' sayin'...

  1. Wow, what a film! I feel like I need to write 1000 words or no words, not sure which. But something that happened to us recently reminds me of this. We bought our funeral plans. It was a very freeing experience, hard to explain.

  3. that was very touching... and it remonds me of the fairy tale where a smart human outfoxed Mr. reaper three times... hope the tricks he used will always work :o)

  4. Seldom do we think of death walking with us each day but it does. Why is death always portrayed as an ugly creature? Lee is thinking about where she wants her ashes place. She owns three plots on her fathers side of the family that dates back to the early 1800s but thinks not. Lee's family was always screwed up fighting.

We have mapped out the shortest route between the closest murals in Nati. None that we have shown on the blog. And the center of our city with Tyler Davidson Fountain which I have not shown. Perhaps the oldest market Findlay Market which I have not shown. If it is terrible weather perhaps The Freedom Center inside. Perhaps for eating Rookwood Restaurant which was the home of the famous Rookwood Pottery. We got to get you a scoop of Graeter's Ice Cream.
So many things I have thought of.

  5. Thank you for reminding me of this lovely, perceptive little film. Death can indeed be a welcome visitor when age or health has become a burden.
